Zero Degrees Of Separation

Jan 28, 2016

Back in August, I had the pleasure of co-leading a tour of the proposed Rail Park site for Kevin Bacon, his sister Hilda and some of their friends along with Nancy Goldenberg of the Center City District. It was beautiful day with the wild flora in full form and sunlit urban vistas. Kevin and company were really excited by the site and inspired by the possibilities that the Rail Park offers.

The Bacon family’s interest in the project is particularly special as there are two generations of legacy that inform the project today. First, there is the legacy of their father, Edmund Bacon, who was head of our city’s Planning Commission in the 1950’s and 60’s and is credited with changing the face of Philadelphia for the 20th Century. Secondly, Kevin Bacon is known for being one of the earliest supporters of the High Line in NY and he has seen that project develop from ideas and visions to the positive impacts the project has had on NYC over the last several years. The Rail Park, as proposed, has the capacity to have a transformative effect on the way residents and visitors experience Philadelphia. Friends of the Rail Park and the Center City District are delighted that the Bacon family sees the potential and has offered to lend their support to the project.

Since that day, Hilda Bacon, who has worked in development and event planning with several area arts and cultural organizations, including the Kimmel Center, has been giving much of her time to help FRP and CCD create a series of awareness and fundraising events. We are thrilled to have her expertise and connectivity in the mix and equally excited to have her brothers, Michael and Kevin, bring their band to Philadelphia for our fundraiser at Union Transfer next Thursday, February 4th.

The evening will begin with a 6-8PM VIP Cocktail Party offering hors d’oeuvres, open bar, DJ Jersey Dan and a great networking crowd of Rail Park sponsors and supporters. At 8PM the performances begin starting with the emcee for the evening, Pierre Robert, followed by a solo acoustic performance by rising star Rob Grote of the Districts, and then the headliners: The Bacon Brothers.

The support around this event has been enormous, from the assistance of corporate sponsors such as Univest, to foundation funding from Poor Richard’s Charitable Trust, to small business and private sponsorship from Victor Keen and Jeanne Ruddy to FRP’s own law firm, the Chesire Law Group, as well as the hundreds of people who have bought advance tickets.

Equally important are the in-kind sponsors who are devoting their time, talents, goods and services to make the event special, including 13th Street Kitchens (Cafe Lift, Prohibition and Bufad), Yuengling (a free beer for each 21+), the Logan Hotel and our incredibly generous hosts: The Union Transfer.

The AFTER PARTY will be hosted by our friends at Brick and Mortar. Each ticket holder will receive a free drink at BAM after the concert.

The VIP event is sold out, but you can still get General Admission tickets and be part of the party! Come out and join us for what will be an enjoyable evening and show your support for the Rail Park!

The VIP event is from 6-8pm. General admission doors open at 7:15 with an 8pm show time.

Tickets are available on the Union Transfer site:

Michael Garden

Michael’s real estate practice is focused on quality properties in established and developing neighborhoods that offer all the desirable amenities of urban living. Rittenhouse Square to Queen Village, Kensington to Passyunk, and great outlying communities such as Chestnut Hill and Spruce Hill are all within his domain.

Michael ventured into real estate in New York in the 1990’s developing residential and small business commercial properties as an investor, contractor, and end user. In 2005 he moved to Philadelphia and began working with individuals, couples, families, and investors to achieve their real estate goals. Since then, Michael has developed a comprehensive knowledge of the neighborhoods of Philadelphia, our changing market conditions, and how to position each deal. He has an inherent ability to understand his client’s motivation, tastes, and bottom line, making him in an invaluable asset to each transaction. Michael’s attention to detail and his sensitivity to the interests of all involved parties are redefining buyer’s and seller’s expectations, one client at a time.
